The firm represented an ENR Top 10 general engineering contractor on a major highway upgrade project in California. Concrete placed in two structural segments of a new bridge did not cure to specified strength. The firm was retained to investigate and resolve the issue. After testing and analysis, it was resolved to remove and replace the segments before the structure fell on the critical path. The segments were removed and replaced, and work accelerated, without the issue causing any critical path delay on the project. The firm assisted with pursuit of the builders risk insurer, and sued the concrete supplier. In less than 24 months from being engaged, the firm’s client was paid over $20 million and made whole.
